{It’s equal parts observational, mathematical and logical. And it is far and away the most consistent pattern because it’s rooted in market fundamentals. When time, price and shape all manifest in a stock chart in the form of an abcd pattern, it’s a good indicator for making a smart trading decision.|Not only did ABCs and extremes have to be programed, but a trend confirmation signal had to be integrated. That way there was little chance of a trader inadvertently entering a counter-trend and therefore a riskier trade. To accomplish this task, a green vertical bar appeared under the price bar once a new uptrend was confirmed, and a magenta bar over the price bar when a downtrend was confirmed. To make the signal clearer, abcd pattern trend and counter-trend trades were labeled on the chart . These confluence levels allowed traders to see where a stock, future, commodity or currency had the greatest probability of pausing or reversing on intraday charts. The second reveals that the intraday trader often uses more than one time frame – such as a one-minute, three-minute, five-minute, 10-minute and 30-minute chart – in making trading decisions.|The Point C reversal zone entry point is either at 0.886 or 1.13 of the 0-X initial leg. This pattern requires management, it is usually volatile and the first target for the trade is the 50% retrace of the BC leg which is the 5-0 entry point. A bearish butterfly pattern starts with a strong XA leg lower followed by a leg higher to the 0.786 retracement, a BC leg lower, then an extended CD leg higher that exceeds X starting point. The CD leg usually abcd pattern terminates at 1.27 of the XA leg but sometimes it is 1.618 of XA. CD is usually 1.618 of AB (sometimes 1.272) and must be an ABCD or alternate ABCD to be valid. Gartleys that fail as reversal patterns usually continue to Butterfly patterns before reversing. A bullish butterfly pattern starts with a strong XA leg higher followed by a leg lower to the 0.786 retracement, a BC leg bounce, then an extended CD leg lower that exceeds X starting point.|This pattern is similar to an abcd pattern with en extra leg. The crab pattern is another pattern where the reversal point D is beyond the X start point of the pattern. This pattern uses a very tight reversal zone and a smaller stop loss.}

How do you trade patterns?

To trade these patterns, simply place an order above or below the formation (following the direction of the ongoing trend, of course). Then go for a target that’s at least the size of the chart pattern for wedges and rectangles. For pennants, you can aim higher and target the height of the pennant’s mast.

|

How do you find the ABCD pattern?

Bearish ABCD Pattern Rules 1. Point D must be higher than point B.
2. In the move from C up to D there can be no lows below point C, and no highs above point D.
3. Determine where D may complete (price)
4. Determine when point D may complete (time) for additional confirmation.
5. CD may equal AB in time.

Can Wave 2 be a triangle?

Unlike wave 4, however, wave 2 cannot consist entirely of a triangle, a triangle in wave 2 must be restricted to an internal wave, such as B wave, or in a complex correction X wave. Triangles always precede the final wave in a sequence.
